YouTube is working on a new feature that could finally fix the messy and often confusing home feed.
The company is testing an experimental option called “Your Custom Feed,” designed to give users more control over the videos they see.
Many users have felt frustrated with YouTube’s recommendation system, which sometimes shows videos that don’t match their real interests. For example, watching just a couple of Disney clips can make YouTube think you are a huge fan, filling your feed with similar videos you never asked for.
With this new experiment, some users will see a “Your Custom Feed” button next to the usual Home tab. Tapping on it allows you to type in prompts based on your interests. Instead of scrolling through random videos, you can guide the system by entering what you actually want to watch. If you want more cooking videos, just type it in, and YouTube will start prioritizing that type of content.
This feature may become a helpful alternative to manually clicking “Not interested” or “Don’t recommend channel,” which can feel slow and ineffective.
Other social platforms are also working on personalized feed controls. Threads is testing a feature that lets users adjust algorithm preferences, and X is developing a tool where people can tag its AI chatbot, Grok, to fine-tune their feed.
