YouTube has quietly added a new option that lets you completely turn off Shorts, something many users have been asking for.
Inside the app’s time management settings, there is now a way to set your Shorts viewing limit to zero minutes, which effectively removes Shorts from your experience on both Android and iOS.
This builds on a feature YouTube first introduced back in October, when users could limit how long they spent watching Shorts, though the minimum at the time was 15 minutes. The update gradually expanded, especially with parents in mind, giving them more control over how much time kids spend endlessly scrolling. A zero-minute option was promised earlier this year, and now it has started rolling out more widely.
According to YouTube spokesperson Makenzie Spiller, the feature is already live for parents and is currently being extended to all users, including standard adult accounts. That means anyone who finds themselves wasting too much time on short videos can now shut them off completely.
Once the limit is reached, the Shorts tab stops showing videos and instead displays a message saying you’ve hit your limit. In testing, the change goes even further by removing Shorts from the Home feed as well, making it much easier to ignore them altogether.
If you want to enable it, you can head into the YouTube app settings, open the time management section, switch on the Shorts feed limit, and set the timer to your preferred duration, including zero.
