X has officially released its completely rebuilt Android app, nearly a year after announcing plans to redesign the platform from the ground up.
The update aims to deliver a faster, smoother, and more reliable experience while laying the foundation for quicker feature development in the future.
The Android version has been rewritten from scratch instead of receiving incremental updates. According to X, users should notice improvements in app loading times, scrolling performance, notifications, and overall responsiveness.
The project has been in development for almost a year. Last August, X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, revealed the company had assembled an Android-focused engineering team to overhaul the app. He later said strong Android download numbers reinforced the decision to prioritize rebuilding the platform.

Announcing the release, Bier described the redesign as one of the largest engineering efforts in the company’s history. He said the new app is not only faster and more stable but also creates a foundation that will allow X to roll out new features much more quickly.
The launch comes as X continues expanding its ecosystem with features such as X Money and X Chat, both of which have also received standalone apps. By modernizing its Android experience, the company hopes to attract more users in regions where Android dominates the smartphone market.
The previous Android app had faced persistent performance issues, with some users even reporting that posts failed to load after tapping X links. The complete rebuild is intended to address those long-standing problems.
Despite the major upgrade, X says the work is not yet finished. The company is still improving performance on older Android devices and adding support for Spaces, its live audio feature. Additional features, including the new video editor, react-with-video, cashtags, and custom timelines, are also planned for future Android updates.
Existing Android users can access the redesigned app by updating X through the Google Play Store.
