X is becoming more like a “save-it-for-later” app with the launch of a new History tab that brings bookmarks, likes, videos, and articles together in one place for easier access.
The feature is first rolling out on iOS. X head of product Nikita Bier described it as a better way for users to keep track of their favorite content and return to posts, videos, or articles they want to read or watch later.
With this update, the Bookmarks button in the left-side menu of X’s mobile app has been renamed History. The new section is divided into four tabs: Bookmarks, Likes, Videos, and Articles. This makes it easier for users to quickly find saved or previously viewed content without searching through different parts of the app.
Bookmarks and Likes are still based on actions users take themselves, while the Videos and Articles tabs will be filled based on what users watch or read on X. Bier said the History section will remain private and visible only to the user.
The feature makes X feel a little more like a web browser, where people can go back to content they have already viewed even if they did not manually save it. It also brings together features that were previously placed in separate areas of the app, with bookmarks available from the main menu and likes found inside the user profile.
The update may also help X push its long-form article format, which the company has been promoting as a way for businesses and creators to share longer updates beyond the platform’s usual post limit. By helping users track articles they discover while scrolling, X is also turning the app into a more personalized reading space.
The launch comes at a time when many web publishers are seeing less referral traffic from platforms like Facebook and Google, as changing algorithms and AI-powered features reduce clicks to outside websites. X appears to see this shift as a chance to attract more publishers and creators to write directly on its platform, where content can be distributed and discovered within the app itself.
