X is giving its AI chatbot Grok a bigger role in the app by letting it help control what users see on their timelines.

In a new announcement, X product head Nikita Bier said Premium subscribers using iOS can now get early access to a feature that lets them pin specific topics to their home tab. Grok will then use those topics to personalize and curate posts shown across their feeds.

Bier said the new timeline is powered by Grok’s understanding of posts combined with X’s recommendation algorithm, creating a feed tailored to each user. He added that the feature works even better when users already interact with those topics regularly.

According to Bier, Android users will receive early access to the Grok-powered timeline very soon.

Alongside the update, X also confirmed it is shutting down X Communities on May 6 due to declining usage. The feature previously allowed users to join topic-based communities with dedicated feeds. X is now asking users to move those groups into chats through its messaging service, XChat.

While X shifts away from community-driven feeds, competing platforms such as Threads and Mastodon continue to support topic-based communities.

Earlier this year, Grok also faced criticism after its AI image generation tool was accused of producing harmful content, including fake nude images and material involving minors. Last month, teenagers filed a lawsuit against xAI, alleging leaders knowingly released Grok’s “spicy” image mode despite safety concerns.
