WordPress.com has officially launched its new AI Assistant, allowing users to edit their websites using simple text prompts directly inside the editor.
The feature is now available for sites on Business and Commerce plans at no extra cost. Unlike standalone AI tools, this assistant works inside the WordPress environment, meaning users can adjust layouts, rewrite text, generate images, and manage pages without leaving their workflow.
The AI Assistant appears as a sidebar in the site editor and also integrates with the Media Library. Users can ask it to rewrite content, translate text, suggest headlines, change fonts, modify colors, add new sections, or even create entire pages like a Contact page. For images, the tool uses Google’s Nano Banana models to generate or edit visuals directly within WordPress, helping creators maintain a consistent design and brand style without relying on third-party tools.
WordPress has also connected the AI Assistant to the block notes feature introduced in version 6.9. By tagging “@ai” inside block notes, users can request tasks such as fact-checking a paragraph, suggesting stronger examples, or generating headline ideas. This makes collaboration smoother, especially for teams working directly in the editor.
How to enable the WordPress AI Assistant
You can opt-in in just a few clicks:
- Log in to your WordPress.com account and go to your Sites list.
- Click your site name, and then click Settings.
- Scroll down and click the “AI tools” setting.

Alternatively, if you purchase a site built with our AI website builder, the AI assistant will be enabled automatically, regardless of which plan you choose.
