Microsoft is introducing new Windows Update changes that aim to make updates far less annoying for users.
The company is rolling out the features to people in the Dev and Experimental Windows Insider channels, giving them more control over when updates happen.
One of the biggest changes is the ability to pause updates for 35 days and keep extending that pause whenever needed. Microsoft says there is no limit to how many times users can reset the pause for another 35 days. If the pause is not extended after it ends, updates will continue as normal.
The company is also improving how update information is shown. Driver updates will now come with clearer titles that mention the type of device they are for, such as display, audio, or battery.
Windows 11 is also getting new power menu options that let users restart or shut down their PC without installing updates. During the setup of a new Windows device, users will also have the option to skip updates.
Microsoft says it is also simplifying the overall update process by grouping updates. They will download in the background and wait for a coordinated installation and restart, which should reduce how often users need to reboot their PCs.
