WhatsApp is working on a new feature designed to cut down on spam and unwanted messages.
The app is testing a rule that limits how many messages users and businesses can send to people who aren’t in their contact list and don’t respond. This change aims to make inboxes quieter and more organized for everyone.
Over time, WhatsApp has grown from a simple chatting app into a major platform that includes communities, business accounts, and customer service tools. But as the platform expanded, so did the number of unwanted promotions and spam messages, which have annoyed many users.
According to a report from TechCrunch, WhatsApp is now testing a monthly message limit for those who send messages to people who don’t reply. Every message sent to a non-contact will count toward this limit. For instance, if someone sends three messages to someone who never replies, those will use up three of their allowed messages for the month.
The company hasn’t shared the exact limit yet, as it is still testing different numbers. Users who get close to the limit will likely receive a warning, and once they reach it, they might be stopped from messaging new contacts for a while. Regular users who only chat with friends and family won’t be affected by this rule.
