The Washington Post has reset all employee logins following a cyberattack that compromised several journalists’ email accounts, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
An internal memo from executive editor Matt Murray, circulated on Sunday, informed staff of the breach, which appears to have targeted Microsoft email accounts used by reporters.
The attackers reportedly focused on journalists covering national security and economic policy, particularly those reporting on China, raising concerns about potential foreign government involvement. While the Post has not publicly identified the source of the attack, CNN reports that Murray assured employees the incident has not impacted customer data.
The precautionary reset of all employee credentials took place on Friday as part of the outlet’s response to the breach. The company is continuing to investigate the scope and origin of the cyber intrusion.
