Ukraine says Starlink and its military-focused Starshield satellite systems have returned to high operating speeds after more than a week of restrictions that disrupted military operations and affected efforts to intercept Russian attack drones.
Ukraine’s Defence Ministry said Saturday that monitoring systems had confirmed the restoration of operating speeds exceeding 400 km/h, with connectivity remaining stable. During the restrictions, Ukrainian forces experienced problems operating the systems at speeds above 160 km/h.
The disruptions reportedly forced the military to cancel some operations and raised concerns about the reliability of satellite communications on the battlefield. Starlink is essential for frontline communications, while Starshield supports Ukrainian military operations in occupied territories.
Neither Elon Musk nor the US government has publicly accepted responsibility for the restrictions. Reuters previously reported that an order to limit Starshield access in Ukraine originated from within the White House. US President Donald Trump said Friday that he would resolve the issue if the problems continued.
Ukraine has not confirmed whether service has been fully restored to its previous capabilities. The latest development comes amid growing tensions over US policy toward the war and questions about the country’s reliance on privately operated satellite networks for military communications.
