Ubuntu’s web infrastructure has gone offline following a major distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, leaving users unable to access updates and essential services at a critical time.
The disruption began Thursday morning and is still ongoing, affecting systems that rely on Ubuntu’s servers for patches and maintenance.
According to a statement from Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu, the attack is both sustained and cross-border in nature. This suggests a coordinated effort targeting the platform’s infrastructure, making recovery more complex and time-consuming.
The outage is particularly concerning for Linux administrators, as it comes at a time when many are expected to apply important security updates. With updated servers unavailable, systems may remain exposed to vulnerabilities until access is restored.
Canonical says it is actively working to resolve the issue and will share more details through official channels once the situation is under control. For now, users and organizations relying on Ubuntu services may experience delays and interruptions until the attack is mitigated.
