The U.S. Justice Department has reached a settlement with Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) regarding its $14 billion all-cash acquisition of Juniper Networks.
As part of the settlement, the merged company must:
- Divest HPE’s “Instant On” wireless networking business
- License the source code for Juniper’s Mist AI software, which powers its wireless LAN products
This agreement, pending court approval, avoids a trial previously set for July 9. HPE and Juniper stated the resolution clears the final regulatory hurdle for the merger to proceed.
The Justice Department originally sued in January, arguing the merger would leave just two dominant players—HPE and Cisco—controlling over 70% of the market. Juniper countered by disputing the DOJ’s market assessment.
HPE CEO Antonio Neri emphasized the deal’s potential to deliver a modern AI-optimized network solution for customers.
