U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he plans to speak with billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk about restoring internet access in Iran, where the government has shut down online services during ongoing anti-government protests.
Trump made the comments while speaking to reporters and was asked whether he would work with Musk’s company, SpaceX, to help bring internet service back to the country.
SpaceX operates Starlink, a satellite-based internet system that has been used in Iran before, when authorities restricted access.
“He’s very good at that kind of thing,” Trump said, referring to Musk. He also praised Musk’s company and its technical abilities.
The relationship between Trump and Musk has been complicated in recent years. Musk helped fund Trump’s successful presidential campaign and later played a role in efforts to significantly reduce the size of the federal government. However, the two men had a public falling out last year after Musk spoke out against Trump’s major tax bill.
Despite their past disagreements, the relationship appears to be improving. Earlier this month, Trump and Musk were seen having dinner together at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, signaling a possible reconciliation.
Neither Musk nor SpaceX responded immediately to requests for comment about Trump’s remarks.
