Truecaller has introduced a new feature called Family Protection as the company expands its focus beyond caller identification to help tackle the rise in scams targeting entire households.

The feature allows up to five people to join a shared group managed by one family administrator who controls scam-blocking settings for everyone. It is first launching as a pilot in Sweden, Chile, Malaysia, and Kenya for both Android and iOS users.

According to Truecaller, the feature is meant for situations where one tech-savvy member can take charge of digital safety for the rest of the family. On Android devices, the administrator can receive alerts during suspected scam calls, monitor basic device information such as battery level, and even remotely end calls that appear fraudulent. This approach aims to protect family members who may not be as familiar with identifying or avoiding scam attempts.

Scam activity has been rising globally, especially in regions where many people are using smartphones for the first time or where older adults are more vulnerable to digital fraud. Countries like India have reported major increases in impersonation attempts and multi-step fraud schemes that target several members of the same household. Truecaller plans to expand Family Protection to more regions, including India, in early 2026 to help address this growing problem.

Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala said scammers are now focusing on whole families instead of individuals, using a sequence of calls, messages, and impersonation tactics to find the weakest link. This shift inspired the development of a system that strengthens protection across multiple users at once. Family Protection is available for free, but families that upgrade to the Premium Family plan can access an ad-free experience along with stronger spam filters and automatic blocking of high-risk calls.
