TikTok has quietly rolled out a new standalone app called PineDrama, signaling a deeper push into scripted short-form entertainment.
The app has launched in the United States and Brazil and is dedicated entirely to microdramas — fictional TV-style series broken into roughly one-minute episodes.
Available on iOS and Android, PineDrama is currently free and ad-free, though TikTok has not indicated whether that will remain the case long term. The launch was first reported by Business Insider.
PineDrama closely mirrors TikTok’s vertical video experience, but instead of random clips, every video is an episode from an ongoing story. Users can browse content through a Discover tab, which highlights all available series or trending titles, or rely on an infinite personalized feed tailored to viewing habits.
The platform spans multiple genres, including romance, thrillers, and family dramas. Popular titles include “Love at First Bite” and “The Officer Fell for Me.” Viewers can resume shows via a Watch History section, save favorites, comment on episodes, and switch to a full-screen viewing mode that removes on-screen distractions.
The launch follows TikTok’s introduction of a “TikTok Minis” section inside its main app last year, which also features microdramas. With PineDrama, however, TikTok is going a step further by offering a dedicated platform that competes directly with established microdrama services like ReelShort and DramaBox.
Interest in microdramas has surged in recent years, with the industry projected to reach $26 billion in annual revenue by 2030, according to Variety. These platforms have succeeded by producing low-budget, fast-paced stories designed to hook viewers immediately, often relying on cliffhangers and serialized drama rather than polished, traditional TV production.
That formula contrasts sharply with earlier short-form experiments like Quibi, the high-profile streaming service launched in 2020 with $1.75 billion in funding. Despite star-studded casts and premium production, Quibi failed to attract a sustained audience and shut down within six months.

By launching PineDrama, TikTok is betting that its mastery of short-form viewing habits — combined with proven microdrama storytelling tactics — can translate into success in scripted entertainment. The move underscores TikTok’s ambition to expand beyond social media and claim a larger role in the future of digital television.
