TikTok is rolling out a big update to its Direct Messages (DMs).
Starting this week, all users aged 16 and above can now send voice memos and share photos or short videos directly in private chats.
With this update, TikTok users can record and send voice messages up to 60 seconds long. Sending is simple — just press and hold the microphone button, then release to send. If you want to cancel, swipe up or left before letting go.
Along with voice notes, TikTok now allows users to share up to nine photos or videos in a single message. Videos are still limited to one minute, but this feature makes chatting more interactive and fun.
TikTok says the rollout is happening gradually, so not everyone will see it right away. These new tools bring TikTok closer to apps like Instagram and WhatsApp, turning it into more than just an entertainment platform.
This move also comes with safety rules: only users 16 and older can use DMs, and TikTok continues to apply content filters to protect teens from harmful material.
