TikTok has launched Local Feeds in the United States, a new opt-in feature that uses precise GPS location data to show users content from nearby areas.
The feature closely mirrors TikTok’s “Nearby Feed,” which was introduced in the UK and parts of Europe last year.
Local Feeds surface location-based posts focused on travel, events, restaurants, shopping, and content from local creators and small businesses. The feature is turned off by default and must be manually enabled by users. It is not available to users under 18, and TikTok says precise location tracking is only active while the app is being used.
Once enabled, Local Feeds appear as a dedicated tab on the app’s home screen, making it easier for users to discover nearby recommendations and community-driven content. TikTok says the feature is designed to improve local discovery while giving more visibility to regional creators and businesses.
This is the first major new feature for US users since TikTok transitioned to new ownership last month. The US rollout initially faced challenges following a major outage that the company attributed to a cascading systems failure, making the launch of Local Feeds a key step in strengthening and expanding the platform’s experience for American users.
