TikTok is rolling out a new Nearby Feed that helps people see what’s happening around them.

The idea is to make it easier for users to discover a new restaurant, find a local event, or explore interesting places during a trip. The feature is now becoming available in the U.K., France, Italy, and Germany.

According to TikTok, posts shown in the Nearby Feed are based on where you are, what the content is about, and when it was posted. This means users will see local videos related to travel, food, events, and other services that match their interests. For creators, public posts may appear to people in the city or region where the video was uploaded or where the creator tagged a location.

Location sharing for the Nearby Feed is optional, and TikTok only allows the feature for users who are 18 or older. If someone turns on location access, TikTok may use GPS data from their device while the app is open to show more accurate recommendations. iPhone users will see a clear indicator whenever their location is being used. TikTok says it will continue to handle location data according to local laws.

Some videos won’t appear in the Nearby Feed at all. Content from users under 18, private accounts, or posts set to Friends or Only You won’t be shown. Users can also manually change their displayed location if they want to explore content from another area. This can be especially helpful when planning a trip or researching a new city.

TikTok says the Nearby Feed can also help local businesses and creators gain more exposure. The company noted that nearly half of TikTok users in the UK have visited a shop, restaurant, or attraction they discovered on the app. With the new feed, TikTok believes more people will engage with community spaces, explore new places, and support local economies.

The Nearby Feed can be accessed directly from the main TikTok home screen. Instead of being labeled “Nearby,” the tab will show the name of the user’s current location. It’s not yet clear when TikTok plans to expand the feature to more regions.
