TikTok is laying off 250 employees and closing its Nashville office as part of a restructuring effort aimed at streamlining its operations.
The office, which opened in 2024, housed members of the company’s content moderation team and is scheduled to close on October 5.
The layoffs were confirmed by Zanna Crowley, a spokesperson for the TikTok USDS Joint Venture. According to the company, the decision is intended to better align its teams for long-term growth while continuing to support its U.S. operations.
“We remain fully committed to providing secure, safe and positive experiences for the 200 million Americans that create, discover and connect with what they love on TikTok,” Crowley said in a statement.
The workforce reduction comes as major social media platforms increasingly rely on artificial intelligence to detect and remove harmful, violent, and explicit content. AI-powered moderation tools have become a growing part of trust and safety operations, reducing the need for some manual review roles.
TikTok has not announced additional restructuring plans beyond the Nashville closure. The office is expected to officially shut its doors on October 5 as the company continues to reshape its moderation strategy around automation and AI technologies.
