Threads is rolling out a new feature called the “ghost post”, which automatically archives posts after 24 hours.
The feature is designed for users who want to share thoughts or updates without leaving a permanent mark on their profile.
The new option works similarly to disappearing stories on other social platforms. You can enable it by toggling the ghost icon in the post creation menu. Once posted, ghost posts will appear as gray chat bubbles in your feed, making them easy to identify.
When someone replies to a ghost post, Threads will send the reply directly to your inbox, and those interactions won’t be visible to anyone else. Likes and public comments will also remain hidden, ensuring a more private and temporary sharing experience.
Threads began testing the ghost post feature back in April, alongside other major updates like direct messages, 10,000-character posts, and group chats. The platform has also introduced topic-based communities to help users connect around shared interests.
