Tata Electronics has confirmed that it recently experienced a cybersecurity incident after a ransomware group claimed to have stolen and published a large amount of company data, including documents allegedly linked to Apple and Tesla.
The company said it detected the incident a few weeks ago and immediately activated its response protocols. Tata Electronics stated that the breach has not affected its business operations and that all operations continue to run normally.
According to security researchers who reviewed the leaked data, the ransomware group known as World Leaks has published more than 200,000 files totaling over 630GB on the dark web. The leaked files reportedly include emails, event logs, employee passport copies, and technical documents connected to Apple and Tesla projects.
A source familiar with the matter said Apple is investigating the incident and that Tata Electronics received a ransom demand. Tata declined to comment on the ransom request, while Apple did not respond to requests for comment.
Researchers examining the data said the leak contains files and folders that appear to reference Apple manufacturing information, including documents related to material specifications and factory data. Some files reportedly contain notices identifying them as proprietary and confidential information belonging to Apple.
The data dump also includes documents allegedly linked to Tesla. Among them are files referencing a charge port controller for North America and technical drawings associated with Project Highland, Tesla’s internal codename for the updated Model 3 sedan. Some documents were marked as confidential trade secrets.
Cybersecurity researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia, who reviewed the leaked files, said the data contains records spanning several years. Another researcher, Rakesh Krishnan, said the information has been available on the dark web since at least June 10.
Reuters could not independently verify the authenticity of the leaked files, and World Leaks could not immediately be reached for comment.
The incident adds to the growing cybersecurity challenges facing major manufacturers and global supply chains. Tata Electronics has become one of Apple’s key manufacturing partners outside China and currently accounts for roughly one-third of iPhone production in India, with Foxconn producing the remainder.
