Starlink says it is ready to deploy satellite internet kits and provide free connectivity to support Nepal’s government and humanitarian organizations following devastating floods that destroyed roads, bridges and critical infrastructure.
The company said on X that it can begin deploying the equipment and providing the service as soon as it receives approval from the Nepali authorities.
The floods have caused extensive damage across affected areas, including roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructure. Nepal has also sought specialized international technical assistance to help restore communications and transport networks.
Starlink’s offer could provide an alternative communications link in areas where terrestrial mobile networks and other infrastructure have been disrupted. However, Starlink has not yet received full regulatory approval for normal commercial operations in Nepal, making government authorization necessary for the emergency deployment.
Nepal has said it does not need general foreign search-and-rescue assistance but is seeking technical support for specific needs, including restoring damaged communications and infrastructure.
