Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, officially launched operations in Sri Lanka on Wednesday, making it the third South Asian country after Bhutan and Bangladesh to gain access to the high-speed, low-latency internet network.

The announcement was made via social media platform X, where Starlink posted: “Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency internet is now available in Sri Lanka!”

With this launch, Starlink continues to expand its presence in South Asia, bringing cutting-edge satellite internet connectivity to more underserved and remote regions.

Starlink, a division of Musk’s SpaceX, provides internet through a massive constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit. With over 6,750 satellites currently in operation, it is the largest such network in the world. The service is known for its fast speeds and low latency, making it suitable for even the most geographically isolated communities.

In Asia, Starlink is already active in countries such as Mongolia, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Jordan, Yemen, and Azerbaijan. Globally, it operates in over 100 countries, offering both residential and roaming internet plans.

Starlink’s residential offerings include two main tiers:

  • Residential – Best suited for larger families or users with heavier internet demands.

With Sri Lanka now online, Starlink continues its mission to provide universal internet access, connecting people where traditional infrastructure falls short.
