Spotify has started rolling out a new feature that lets users bring their playlists from other music platforms directly into the Spotify app.

The timing is interesting, as the music world has been noisy lately with criticism of Spotify CEO Daniel Ek and many artists choosing to leave the platform. Whether connected or not, Spotify’s new tool seems aimed at keeping users interested and bringing new ones in.

The feature isn’t something Spotify built from scratch. Instead, it uses a direct integration with TuneMyMusic, a service that already helps people move playlists between platforms like Tidal, YouTube Music, Qobuz, Beatport, and even Napster. TuneMyMusic isn’t the only service that offers this. Others, such as Soundiiz and SongShift, perform the same function, and SongShift is the service Apple Music uses for its own playlist import option.

Users could already go to these third-party services on their own, but the free versions usually come with limits on how many playlists you can move or how long they can be. Transferring playlists directly through Spotify or Apple allows users to make full, unlimited transfers, albeit in one direction. Spotify’s new in app playlist transfer option is now rolling out globally, making it easier than ever for users to bring their music library with them.
