Spotify is expanding its AI-powered Prompted Playlists feature, and this time it’s stepping beyond music into podcasts, giving Premium users a new way to discover shows tailored to their interests.
Originally launched in beta last December for music, the feature lets users generate playlists using simple text prompts, essentially guiding the algorithm with natural language to match specific moods, genres, or themes.
With the latest update, the same concept now applies to podcast episodes. Users can type in what they’re looking for, and Spotify’s AI builds a curated playlist of episodes that match the request. However, the feature is still in beta and currently limited to English-speaking Premium users in select countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and a few others.

Early testing shows that the AI can take a few minutes to generate results, but the outcome can be surprisingly relevant. For example, when asked to create a playlist of Dungeons and Dragons actual play podcasts, the AI delivered a mix of well-known titles and lesser-known shows. One limitation is that it tends to pull random episodes, which may not work well for series that follow a strict storyline. This can be adjusted by refining the prompt, such as asking specifically for first episodes, which results in a more beginner-friendly playlist.
Each generated episode also comes with a short AI-written description explaining how it fits the prompt. While these summaries are somewhat general, they are generally accurate and not misleading, offering just enough context to help users decide what to play next.
The feature also allows ongoing customization. Users can tweak their prompts, regenerate playlists, or manually edit selections if the results don’t fully match their preferences. There’s even an option to set playlists to refresh regularly, creating a dynamic stream of new podcast recommendations on a daily or weekly basis.
To use the feature, users can head into the Spotify app, tap on “Create,” select “Prompted Playlist,” and enter a description of what they want. In some cases, updating the app may be necessary to access podcast support, as earlier versions may still show it as unavailable.
