Signal has introduced a long-awaited feature that allows users to link multiple smartphones to a single account, making it easier to access messages across several devices without relying on just one phone.
Previously, Signal supported linked devices such as desktop computers and iPads, but users could not connect an additional Android phone or iPhone. With the latest update, you can now link extra smartphones to the same Signal account and send or reply to messages seamlessly from any connected device.
To help protect user privacy, Signal gives users the option to decide whether to transfer an end-to-end encrypted copy of their existing message history to each newly linked phone. This allows people to avoid copying sensitive conversations to devices that may be shared with others or could be lost or stolen.
The feature is rolling out with Signal version 8.20 for Android and 8.22 for iPhone and iPad.
Alongside multi-phone support, Signal has also improved its interface for larger screens. The update includes several enhancements for foldable smartphones and better support for Android tablets. The company says its large-screen Android experience is still being refined, and additional optimizations for the Chromebook version of the app are also in development.
