Reddit has announced that its AI-powered search tool is now available in five additional languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.
This means users in countries such as Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy can now use the feature in their native languages.
Users who set one of these languages as their default will be able to chat with Reddit’s AI in a simple question-and-answer format. The company uses a Google AI model to power this feature, which is designed to make finding information on the platform faster and more conversational.
Reddit first introduced AI-powered search last year and has been gradually expanding it. The tool is part of Reddit Answers, which appears alongside the site’s regular search function. Reddit CEO Steve Huffman shared in August that more than 70 million people use Reddit’s search every week, while Reddit Answers already has over 6 million users. He also mentioned that the company plans to bring both experiences together into a unified search system in the future.
Chat-based search tools have become increasingly popular since ChatGPT added web search capabilities. Other major search platforms like Google and Brave have followed suit by integrating conversational AI into their search engines. Meanwhile, new companies such as Perplexity are also gaining attention for offering chat-style search interfaces.
