Qualcomm has officially announced its latest flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, designed for next-generation Android flagship smartphones.
The new chip introduces significant improvements in CPU, GPU, and AI performance, with a strong focus on personalized on-device AI experiences.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is powered by a third-generation Oryon CPU, featuring two prime cores clocked at up to 4.6GHz and six performance cores reaching 3.62GHz. Qualcomm claims the CPU is up to 35% more power efficient, contributing to a 16% overall efficiency boost compared to its predecessor.
On the graphics side, the Adreno GPU delivers up to 23% better gaming performance while reducing power consumption by 20%. The updated Hexagon NPU is also 37% faster, enabling smoother and smarter AI-driven features. Combined with the Snapdragon Sensing Hub, the chip supports continuous, personalized AI learning that adapts to each user over time.

The upgraded ISP (Image Signal Processor) now supports the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec and introduces a computational video pipeline for real-time AI enhancements on a frame-by-frame level. This brings smarter autofocus, auto exposure, and auto white balance for improved photo and video quality.
Connectivity also gets a major upgrade with the X85 modem, which reduces gaming latency by 50% through AI-enhanced Wi-Fi.
