OpenAI is working to adjust the personality of its latest model, GPT-5, after users complained it felt too cold and distant compared to earlier versions.

When GPT-5 launched, many users said it lacked the warmth and friendly tone of GPT-4o, which had become popular for its personable responses. The feedback pushed OpenAI to bring back GPT-4o for paid users while it works on fine-tuning GPT-5’s style.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed that the company is making GPT-5 sound “nicer,” but not overly friendly. The goal is to strike a balance—keeping the model professional and intelligent while still approachable.
