OpenAI has introduced new settings that allow ChatGPT users to directly control how warm and enthusiastic the chatbot’s responses feel.

The update was announced through a post on social media and gives users more say over the assistant’s tone and style.

The new options are available in the Personalization menu, where users can now adjust ChatGPT’s warmth, enthusiasm, and emoji usage. Each setting can be switched between More, Less, or Default. Similar controls are also available for how often ChatGPT uses headers and lists in its responses.

These new controls build on existing customization features that let users choose a base tone for ChatGPT, such as Professional, Candid, or Quirky. Those tone presets were introduced by OpenAI in November and were designed to make conversations feel more tailored to individual preferences.

ChatGPT’s personality has been a sensitive topic for OpenAI throughout the year. At one point, the company rolled back an update after users complained the chatbot had become overly flattering and agreeable. Later, OpenAI adjusted GPT-5 to sound warmer and friendlier after feedback that the model felt too cold or distant.
