OpenAI has introduced a new version of its latest AI model designed specifically for cybersecurity, as competition in the space continues to grow.

The model, called GPT 5.4 Cyber, is tailored for defensive security work and comes shortly after Anthropic revealed its own advanced system, Mythos.

Anthropic’s Mythos model, announced earlier this month, is being tested under a controlled program that allows selected organizations to use it for cybersecurity purposes. The company says it has already helped uncover thousands of serious vulnerabilities across operating systems, web browsers, and other software.

In response, OpenAI is rolling out GPT 5.4 Cyber with a focus on helping security professionals identify and analyze threats more effectively. The model will not be widely available at first and will instead be offered to a limited group of vetted security vendors, organizations, and researchers due to its more flexible design.

OpenAI is also expanding its Trusted Access for Cyber program, which was introduced earlier this year. The initiative is now being opened to thousands of verified individual defenders and hundreds of teams working to protect critical software systems.

As part of this expansion, OpenAI is adding new access tiers. Users who meet higher verification requirements will be able to unlock more advanced capabilities, including access to GPT 5.4 Cyber, which allows deeper work on sensitive cybersecurity tasks like vulnerability research and analysis.
