OpenAI has officially launched its AI video creation app, Sora, on Android, making it available in several new regions.
The app is now live on the Google Play Store in the US, Canada, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, according to OpenAI’s announcement on Tuesday.
Sora first debuted on iOS in September, where it quickly gained over 1 million downloads within five days of release. The app offers a TikTok-style feed filled with AI-generated videos and lets users create, share, and remix their own clips.
One of its standout tools is the “cameo” feature, which allows users to generate AI videos starring themselves or their friends. However, the feature has sparked criticism for its handling of deepfakes and copyright issues, prompting OpenAI to reverse its previous opt-out policy for content rightsholders.
OpenAI has also rolled out “character cameos,” letting users create reusable avatars that can appear across multiple videos. The company says it eventually plans to let rightsholders charge extra for cameos of popular characters or public figures.
