Nvidia has acknowledged that a small number of its latest RTX 5090, RTX 5090D, and RTX 5070 Ti graphics chips were shipped with missing render output units (ROPs).

This issue, originally reported by TechPowerUp, affects less than 0.5% of the GPUs, and impacted users can request a replacement from the board manufacturer.

According to Nvidia GeForce global PR director Ben Berraondo, the affected GPUs have one fewer ROP than specified, resulting in an average performance reduction of around 4%, though AI and compute workloads remain unaffected. Nvidia has since corrected the production anomaly to prevent further occurrences.

While the issue is relatively minor in terms of performance impact, it adds to a series of challenges Nvidia has faced with its latest high-end GPUs. The company has also been dealing with driver-related black screen issues and reports of melting power connectors.

Users can check if their GPU is affected using GPU-Z. The RTX 5090 series should display 176 ROPs—if fewer are detected, users are advised to contact their board manufacturer for a replacement. Affected models have been reported across multiple brands, including Zotac, MSI, Gigabyte, Manli, and even an Nvidia Founders Edition card.
