For years, Windows users have been clamoring for a simple, built-in character count feature in Notepad. Finally, their pleas have been answered! With the latest update, Notepad 11.2311.29.0, Microsoft has finally gifted us this long-awaited tool.
“When text is selected, the status bar shows the character count for both the selected text and the entire document,” Microsoft said.
“If no text is selected, the character count for the entire document is displayed, ensuring you always have a clear view of your document’s length.”
Beyond the character count, this update represents Microsoft’s continued commitment to improving the user experience in Notepad. Recent updates have brought features like autosave, tabs, and even a dark mode. These changes demonstrate Microsoft’s recognition of Notepad’s importance as a basic yet indispensable tool for many users.
