Netflix has closed Boss Fight Entertainment, the studio behind the mobile game Squid Game: Unleashed, according to LinkedIn posts from several employees.

When Netflix purchased Boss Fight, executives praised the team’s experience in creating hit games across genres, saying it would help the company grow its gaming offerings for subscribers. Squid Game: Unleashed became a notable success, ranking as the number one free action game in 107 countries at launch. Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters even highlighted it during this week’s earnings call as an example of the kind of narrative-driven games the company wants to produce based on its popular franchises.

Despite that success, Netflix has decided to shut down the studio. The company declined to comment on the reason behind the closure.

The shutdown comes amid widespread layoffs and studio closures across the gaming industry. Developers such as Funcom, the team behind Dune: Awakening, and Cloud Chamber, which is working on the next BioShock game, have also announced staff cuts in recent months.
