The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has announced that it will begin shutting down social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, that have not registered with the government.
The decision was made during a meeting today led by Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung at the Ministry. Officials confirmed that unregistered platforms will be gradually blocked starting today.

Earlier, on August 25 (Bhadra 9), the Cabinet had directed all social media companies operating in Nepal to complete their registration within one week. However, since several platforms ignored the directive, the Ministry has decided to enforce the ban.
“The decision to restrict access to unregistered social media platforms will be implemented from today,” a source from the Ministry stated. The Ministry has already sent instructions to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) to carry out the order.
