Elon Musk has become the richest person in history after his net worth surged past $800 billion, following SpaceX’s acquisition of his artificial-intelligence firm xAI, according to multiple reports.
Musk’s total wealth is now estimated at around $852 billion, placing him far ahead of the world’s second-wealthiest individual, Larry Page, whose net worth stands at roughly $281 billion.
The merger valued the combined SpaceX-xAI entity at approximately $1.25 trillion, adding an estimated $84 billion to Musk’s fortune. Before the deal, Musk held about 42% of SpaceX, valued at about $800 billion, and 49% of xAI, which was recently valued at $250 billion following a private fundraising round. After the merger, Musk’s stake in the combined company rose to 43%, worth around $542 billion, making SpaceX his single largest asset.
Beyond SpaceX, Musk also owns about 12% of Tesla, valued at roughly $178 billion, along with Tesla stock options estimated at $124 billion. In addition, he is eligible for a shareholder-approved Tesla compensation package that could grant him up to $1 trillion in additional Tesla shares over the next decade, subject to performance milestones and regulatory conditions.
Musk’s wealth has expanded rapidly over the past four months, during which he crossed the $500 billion, $600 billion, and $700 billion thresholds. The gains were driven largely by rising SpaceX valuations and a Delaware Supreme Court ruling that reinstated his long-contested Tesla stock options.
Looking ahead, Musk has said SpaceX’s Starship rocket is expected to begin launching V3 Starlink satellites in 2026. Each launch could deliver more than 20 times the capacity of current Falcon 9 missions, with Musk envisioning hourly launches capable of lifting 200 tons per flight. The next-generation system is also expected to deploy direct-to-mobile satellites, aiming to provide full cellular coverage across the globe.
