Microsoft is rolling out a major upgrade to its Advanced Paste tool in PowerToys for Windows 11, adding support for on-device AI models with the latest 0.96 update.

The feature can now run AI processing through Microsoft’s Foundry Local tool or the open-source Ollama platform, allowing the system to use a device’s neural processing unit instead of relying on cloud services.

This shift means users can perform tasks like translating or summarizing copied text without needing to purchase API credits or send any data off their device. The update provides users with faster performance, enhanced privacy, and greater control over how their clipboard content is processed.

Advanced Paste also expands its support for external AI options. In addition to OpenAI, the tool can now be configured to work with models from Azure OpenAI, Google’s Gemini, and Mistral. This gives Windows 11 users a much broader range of AI choices depending on their workflow and system capabilities.

Microsoft has added a small design improvement as well. Advanced Paste now shows a preview of the content currently stored on the clipboard, and a new drop-down menu makes it easier to select which AI model you want to use before executing a command.
