Microsoft has rolled out a major update to its AI-powered Copilot assistant, giving it the ability to create Office documents and connect directly to popular email and cloud services like Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar.
The new update is now available for Windows users enrolled in the Insider Program who have Copilot version 1.25095.161.0 or higher.
With this upgrade, users can link Copilot to both Microsoft and third-party accounts to help the AI assistant access and summarize data from emails, files, and calendars. However, the feature is optional and must be enabled manually in the Copilot app settings. Microsoft explained that users can grant access by opening the Settings page, going to the Connectors section, and turning on services such as Outlook, OneDrive, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Contacts, and Google Drive.
Copilot can now also generate and export Office files directly from a chat prompt. For example, you can ask, “Export this text to a Word document” or “Create an Excel file from this table,” and Copilot will instantly create a shareable Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or PDF file. Any response longer than 600 characters now includes an export option by default, making it easier to turn ideas or notes into editable documents.
The new features are being gradually released worldwide, meaning not all Windows Insider users will receive them immediately. Microsoft is also asking testers to share feedback from within the Copilot app by clicking the profile icon and selecting “Give feedback.”
This update follows Microsoft’s recent move to bring Copilot Chat with content-aware capabilities to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote for Microsoft 365 business users. The company also introduced a Gaming Copilot for Windows 11, designed as a personal assistant for gamers aged 18 or older.
