Microsoft has confirmed that Office Online Server will reach end of support on December 31, 2026, after which it will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support.

Office Online Server is an on-premises Microsoft solution that allows users to view and edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote files directly in a web browser without relying on the cloud. With December 31, 2026 now approaching, Microsoft is urging organizations to prepare for the transition.

The company is shifting focus to Microsoft 365 and Office for the Web, which offer cloud-based collaboration, automatic updates, stronger security, and integration with services like Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint Online.

Microsoft recommends starting migration planning early to avoid operational and compliance issues.
