Microsoft says IT administrators can now uninstall the AI-powered Copilot assistant from company-managed devices using a new policy setting that became widely available after the April 2026 Patch Tuesday updates.
The new setting, called RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp, is now available through Policy CSP and Group Policy for devices managed with Microsoft Intune or System Center Configuration Manager.
The policy only works on Windows 11 25H2 devices where both Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot are installed, the user did not manually install the Copilot app, and the app has not been opened in the last 28 days.
Microsoft says the setting allows organizations to remove Copilot in a non-disruptive way. If enabled, the Microsoft Copilot app will be uninstalled, though users can still install it again later if they choose. The feature is limited to Enterprise, Professional, and Education editions of Windows.
Administrators can turn it on through Group Policy Editor by going to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows AI, and then selecting Remove Microsoft Copilot App.
The policy was first introduced in January for Windows Insider users running preview builds. Last month, Microsoft also stopped automatically installing the Microsoft 365 Copilot app alongside Microsoft 365 desktop apps, though the company has not explained the reason.

Microsoft is also reportedly dropping several previously announced Copilot features that would have added the assistant into Windows 11 notifications, the Settings app, and File Explorer.
