Microsoft has fixed several serious issues affecting Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11 24H2. These problems caused system crashes, long startup times, and Remote Desktop (RDP) connection issues.
The fixes are included in recent Windows updates.
Blue Screen and Installation Issues Fixed
Some high-end servers with more than 256 logical processors were having big problems. They would:
- Take hours to start
- Fail to install or upgrade Windows
- Show Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors during app launches or restarts
Microsoft has now fixed these problems in updates released after November 2024 (KB5046617). If you’re using Windows Server 2025, you should install the latest updates to avoid these issues.
If you can’t update right away, you can change settings in the server’s UEFI setup to lower the number of logical processors to 256 or fewer as a temporary fix.
Remote Desktop Freezing Bug Fixed
Another issue affected Remote Desktop connections. After installing the February 2025 update (KB5051987), some users found that RDP sessions froze soon after connecting. The mouse and keyboard stopped working, and users had to reconnect.
Microsoft has now fixed this in:
- Windows 11 with update KB5052093 (Feb 25)
- Windows Server 2025 with update KB5055523 (April 8)
