Microsoft has confirmed that recent boot failures affecting Windows 11 systems are limited to commercial PCs, following problems with its January 2026 update.
According to the company, the issue occurred because the December 2025 update failed to install properly, leaving affected systems in an unstable or “improper” state.
Microsoft says it is now investigating how devices were able to enter this condition in the first place. The company admitted that its first Windows 11 update of 2026 has caused widespread disruption, especially for business and enterprise users, marking another rough start to the year for Windows updates.
