Bluesky is preparing to make its platform feel more real-time and interactive, as it looks to challenge X.

The plan was revealed in Bluesky’s 2026 development roadmap, which focuses on live events, smarter feeds, and better core features.

According to Bluesky product head Alex Benzer, the company is experimenting with feed updates that go beyond endless scrolling. The goal is to make feeds feel more like a shared space where users can react and engage during live moments such as breaking news or major events.

The roadmap also hints at long-requested improvements, including post drafts, longer videos, faster uploads, and better follow recommendations. Bluesky says strengthening these basics is essential if it wants users to stay active on the platform. A dedicated team will also manage the Discover feed, while topic tags are being explored to help users find relevant conversations more easily.

Despite the updates, Bluesky remains a small player. It currently has around 1.5 million daily active users, far behind Threads and X. Still, by focusing on live discussions and real-time engagement, Bluesky hopes to attract users who feel X has changed too much from its original Twitter-era experience.
