Microsoft has temporarily stopped rolling out this month’s Windows 11 security update to a small number of Dell computers after reports that the update can trigger unexpected shutdowns, overheating, poor performance, and excessive battery drain.

The issue affects certain Dell devices running Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 after installing the KB5101650 cumulative security update. According to Microsoft, the problem is linked to changes first introduced in the KB5095093 Windows preview update released on June 23, 2026.

The company said affected systems may show a yellow warning icon next to the Intel Innovation Platform Framework (IPF) Processor Participant driver in Device Manager. This happens because the updated Windows USB-C Connection Manager interface conflicts with the Intel system driver.

The Intel IPF Processor Participant driver is responsible for managing power consumption, processor cooling, and thermal performance. When the driver is affected, systems can suffer from unexpected shutdowns, slower performance, increased heat, and faster battery drain.

Microsoft said Dell discovered the compatibility issue during testing and reported it before a wider rollout. To prevent more users from experiencing the problem, the company has placed a compatibility hold on the KB5101650 update for impacted Dell devices until a fix is available.

Microsoft is working with Dell on a solution and expects to release a fix within the next few days. Once the issue is resolved, the Windows 11 security update will resume rolling out to affected systems.
