Meta has announced that it will no longer show political or “social issue” ads in the European Union starting in October.

This change comes as the EU prepares to enforce its new Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising (TTPA) regulation.

In a blog post, Meta said the new law creates “significant operational challenges and legal uncertainties.” To avoid possible problems, the company has decided to remove political and issue-based ads across its platforms in EU countries.

Google also made a similar move last November. It announced that it would stop showing political ads in the EU due to the same upcoming regulation.

The TTPA law is designed to make political advertising more transparent, especially during elections. However, tech companies say the rules are unclear and difficult to manage.
