France’s national postal service, La Poste, confirmed on Monday that a major network incident knocked several of its information systems offline, disrupting online banking and digital services for millions of users across the country.

The outage affected key platforms, including La Poste’s website, mobile app, digital identity service, and the Digiposte document storage system.

The company said that while some post offices experienced temporary service disruptions, customers could still complete banking and postal transactions at service counters. La Poste also assured users that essential banking services were still operating, including ATM cash withdrawals, card payments at physical stores, and transfers through the WERO payment system.

La Banque Postale, the banking arm of Groupe La Poste, confirmed that its online and mobile banking services were also unavailable. However, it emphasized that core banking operations were not impacted, and online card payments could still be completed using SMS authentication, replacing the usual Certicode verification method.

Although La Poste has not officially confirmed the cause of the outage or provided a timeline for full service restoration, French media reports suggest the disruption was triggered by a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.
