Apple has officially released iOS 18.5, and one of its standout features is support for carrier-provided satellite messaging on the iPhone 13 series.
This update allows T-Mobile users with an iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, or 13 Pro Max to access Starlink-powered satellite messaging, currently free to try in the U.S. before the trial ends in July.
It’s important to note that this feature supports carrier-based satellite services only. Apple’s own Emergency SOS via satellite remains exclusive to the iPhone 14 and newer models. This change marks a significant expansion of satellite connectivity for older iPhone models, enhancing communication in areas with poor cellular coverage.
iOS 18.5 also introduces a colorful new Pride Harmony wallpaper and a helpful Screen Time update that notifies parents when their child uses the Screen Time passcode. Other additions include improvements to the Mail app, the ability to buy content with an iPhone in the Apple TV app on third-party devices, and bug fixes for the Apple Vision Pro app.
