Microsoft’s powerful Copilot Plus AI features have only been available on select laptops until now. But that could change soon, thanks to a new update from Intel.
Intel is preparing to release refreshed Arrow Lake desktop CPUs later this year. These upgraded chips are expected to support Copilot Plus features, making them available on desktop PCs for the first time.
The reason? Intel is adding a new NPU (Neural Processing Unit), based on the same “NPU 4” architecture found in its upcoming Lunar Lake laptop chips. These NPUs meet Microsoft’s 40 TOPS AI performance requirement, which is needed to run Copilot Plus.
Right now, only some laptops, mini PCs, and all-in-one PCs with special processors can run these features. This refresh could bring full AI capabilities to traditional desktop computers.
However, the update won’t include better CPU or GPU cores. Intel is mainly focusing on AI performance this time. That might disappoint gamers, who were hoping for a performance boost in PC games.
Intel’s current Arrow Lake chips are efficient and run cool, but they’ve been underwhelming in gaming, often performing worse than older Raptor Lake CPUs. Even after BIOS updates, things haven’t improved much. Intel has admitted the launch “didn’t go as planned.”

So, if you’re a gamer, you may have to wait until Intel’s next-gen Nova Lake chips, expected in 2026, for real competition against AMD’s powerful Ryzen 9800X3D and 9950X3D.
