Instagram has introduced a new feature called Instagram Map, allowing users to share their last active location with friends and explore posts tagged at different places.

The location updates only when the app is opened, and it is not shared in real time. By default, location sharing is turned off, and users must manually choose who can see it, such as mutual followers, close friends, or a custom list.

The new map can be accessed through the Messages tab, where a dedicated icon opens a view of friends’ locations and nearby tagged posts. Users can also explore public posts from various locations, including cafes, events, and tourist spots, without sharing their own location.

While the feature aims to make connecting and discovering local content easier, it has raised privacy concerns among some users. Instagram advises reviewing the sharing settings carefully and reminds users they can disable location visibility at any time in the app’s privacy controls.
